Phitsanulok’s annual mango harvest has sparked a gold rush in the lower North province, as prices plummet due to oversupply. With international travel and exports blocked by Covid-19, Phitsanulok farmers are desperate to find customers for growing mountains of their world-renowned Nam Dok Mai mangoes this year.

Negotiations with South Korea over the export of Mahachanok or “rainbow” mangoes, which began in 2011, were finally completed last month, Deputy Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Mananya Thaiset said.

Thailand’s fruit farmers have been handed a simple and eco-friendly way of protecting their crop and boosting profits: recycled paper. The special wrapping to protect ripening fruits from pests is made by Chonburi’s AP Recycle Industrial company with a grant from the Technology and Innovation-Based Enterprise Development Fund (TED Fund).

Phichit provincial administration will hold the “World Mango Day” fair from Thursday to next Tuesday, deputy governor Somsak Chantharasombat said on Tuesday.

Researchers at Phitsanulok-based Naresuan University have developed a mango that can reduce the risk of contracting some cancers.

After growing up on a mango farm, Kusuma Poonsangsiri is extending her father’s mango plantation to operate juice and related businesses, which have shown a promising start.

Myanmar is planning to export four agricultural products to South Korea's tightly controlled agriculture market this fiscal year, a senior official from the Ministry of Commerce said.
