The automaker increased worldwide deliveries to customers to 2,083 units in 2012, up 30 per cent from 1,602 in the previous year and marking a third consecutive year of growth.
"In spite of ongoing worldwide financial and economic uncertainties, Lamborghini has delivered a very satisfying performance in 2012, confirming the strength of our product and commercial strategy. We will continue to work on the development of our product range to address further growth in the future," said Stephan Winkelmann, president and chief executive of Automobili Lamborghini SpA.
Growth was driven by the first full-year of sales of the new Aventador LP 700-4, which sold 922 units. Meanwhile, with 1,161 units sold, the Gallardo confirmed its status as the most successful Lamborghini ever. The figure represents a stable performance compared to 2011 and took the total to more than 13,000 cars delivered since the model’s launch.
Lamborghini is a global brand with 2012 sales distribution well balanced among three main regions: Asia-Pacific 35 per cent, Europe 29 per cent and the Americas 28 per cent. The Middle East and South Africa accounted for 8 per cent.
Despite global market headwinds, Lamborghini grew in Europe by 34 per cent versus 2011, in the Americas by 50 per cent (US growth was 53 per cent) and in Southeast Asia and the Pacific by 46 per cent.
In 2013 the Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster, which the firm describes as an open-top "super sports car", will hit the market. Initial pre-order expectations for this model have been exceeded and the order bank for both versions covers the next 15 months.
