Poshu Yeung, vice president of the international business group at Tencent, the company behind the WeChat app, said last week that WeChat 5.0 moves the platform beyond a simple chatting app and enriches the user experience by being a truly mobile social platform.
There are many new key features, such as making sharing web pages to Facebook easier for those who have linked their Facebook account to their WeChat. A revamped “official accounts” user interface makes it more convenient for users to group brand accounts into one single category, reducing clutter in chat screens. A new “save messages” function allows users to keep sentimental text and voice messages and photos.
Connecting people in an innovative way, WeChat became the most downloaded mobile social app on App Store last month in numerous countries including the Philippines, Argentina, Brazil, Hong Kong, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, Singapore, Spain, South Africa, Thailand, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.
WeChat 5.0 for iOS is now available for download and will be ready at a later date for Android.
DTAC aims for 1 million TriNet users
DTAC TriNet is aiming to port one million customers to TriNet on customers’ request this month.
It has already ported 100,000 customers on request to TriNet and aims to achieve 3.5 million by October.
Chaiyod Chirabowornkul, chief customer officer for Total Access Communication and director of DTAC TriNet, said that over 3.5 million customers have registered for TriNet since July 23.
DTAC TriNet has clarified that the porting has started with pre-registered customers who are within the coverage of the 2100 megahertz network and have TriNet-supported mobile devices.
Eligible customers will be notified of the porting schedule. In most cases, customers will not have to change their SIM card, except for 700,000-800,000 customers who are using special services.
DTAC and DTAC TriNet have around 8,000 3G cell sites in total and are constantly installing more cell sites with a target of 10,000 cell sites across the country by October.
