Only 35 of this limited edition sedan will be produced by the super luxury car manufacturer through its bespoke programme, said Herfried Hasenoehrl, general manager for emerging markets-Asia, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.
The Alpine Centenary Collection was inspired by a remarkable journey, he said. A century ago, four Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts embarked on the Austrian Alpine Trials, considered the most demanding test of automotive endurance of the time.
“The 1913 Alpine Trial was an extraordinary moment in the rich history of Rolls-Royce cars. We’re delighted to hold the Southeast Asian debut of its inspired collection car here in Thailand, where our customers appreciate the excellence of engineering combined with the bespoke, luxurious craftsmanship that comes with a Rolls-Royce motor car,” Hasenoehrl said.
In June of 2013, the Alpine Trial Centenary Collection Car joined the original Silver Ghost and 46 other enthusiastic competitors in the 100th Anniversary rerunning of the original Alpine Trials Rally. They went through 17 days and more than 2,900 km of driving.
According to Rolls-Royce, this is the first time that a bespoke model has taken inspiration from a heritage model. For example, the exterior paint is inspired by the Silver Ghost from 1913, and the back wheels and grille are also replicated. The cabin, meanwhile, features a clock that displays the stages of the rally and timings, while the inlays to the rear picnic tables and front fascia express the topography and distances of the Alpine route. There is also a hand-painted coachline and hoodlining that colour-matches the hood of the original Silver Ghost from 100 years ago.
