Intel architects and chip designers have achieved greater than two-times reduction in the thermal design point when compared to a previous generation of processor, while providing similar performance and improved battery life.
Sontiya Nujeenseng, country manager of Intel Microelectronics (Thailand), described Intel’s integrated model as the combination of design expertise with the best manufacturing process, which made it possible to deliver better performance and lower power to customers and to consumers.
Intel has delivered the world’s first 14nm technology in volume production. It uses second-generation Tri-gate (FinFET) transistors with industry-leading performance, power, density and cost per transistor.
Its 14nm technology will be used to manufacture a wide range of high-performance to low-power products, including servers, personal computing devices and Internet of Things.
The first systems based on the Intel Core M processor will be on shelves for the end-year holiday selling season, followed by broader original-equipment manufacturer availability in the first half of next year.
AMD expands its gaming tech portfolio
AMD has announced a new technology partnership with OCZ Storage Solutions, a Toshiba Group company, for AMD Radeon-branded solid-state drives (SSDs).
Roman Kyrychynskyi, AMD director of memory, said AMD Radeon was synonymous with performance and quality amongst PC gamers.
AMD Radeon R7 Series SSDs represent the next stage of AMD’s strategy to be a “one-stop shop” for consumers, with a portfolio of high-performance solutions that now includes AMD Radeon graphics cards, AMD FX processors, AMD Accelerated Processing Units, AMD Radeon memory, and processor chipsets.
The addition of a solid-state drive makes it easier than ever for a customer to outfit their system with like-branded components both for peace of mind and reliability, he said.
AMD Radeon R7 Series SSDs will be available at a starting price of US$99.99 (Bt3,200) for the 120GB drive.
‘dtac Accelerate 2014’ winners announced
DTAC (Total Access Communication) has announced the winners of “dtac Accelerate 2014” after the five finalists completed the three-month boot camp.
The winning team in the finance category is Piggipo, whose application has featured several times in the App Store and has received funding from Ookbee.
The team will next fly to California to take part in the “Blackbox Connect” programme in Silicon Valley.
Meanwhile, the award winner in the digital category, Anywhere to Go – the developer of Claim Di – has won the opportunity from Telenor, DTAC’s major shareholder, to compete in Norway with 13 other worldwide start-ups.
All five boot-camp finalists – the others being FastInFlow, DriveBot and Storylog – will receive follow-on funding and commercialisation support from DTAC worth a total of Bt10 million.
Andrew Kvalseth, DTAC senior vice president, Corporate Strategy and Business Innovation, said the aim of the company’s contest was to provide a strategic-partner business model, follow-on funding and commercialisation support to help the five finalists’ applications get more downloads and revenues.
“We expect two or three of the teams will be ready for commercialisation by year-end or early next year. DTAC will help grow applications that are suitable for the Southeast Asian market and bring them to customers of Telenor Group in 13 countries around the world. We expect to have a positive outcome,” he said.
