Thai students set for world championship challenge in Microsoft Imagine Cup 2016 World Finals with time-warping game “Timelie”.

Microsoft has announced the full list of teams chosen for the World Finals round of the Imagine Cup 2016 competition, which will be held in Seattle, USA on 26-29 July 2016. Team PH21 from Chulalongkorn University has been named by Microsoft’s panel of judges as one of 35 finalist teams from around the world, giving the opportunity to challenge for Thailand’s fourth world championship victory in the competition after previous wins in 2007, 2010, and 2012.

Imagine Cup is a Microsoft initiative conceived to promote the spirit of student innovation. Over the course of 14 years, the competition has produced countless examples of inspiring and creative ideas as 1.65 million youths from 190 countries around the world attempt to make a difference through technology. The journey to the Imagine Cup 2016 World Finals started way back in August 2015 as students competed to win their place among 150 national winners, present their works to Microsoft’s panel of judges and experts, and challenge for the 35 berths in the World Finals.

PH21 was one of 100 student teams from all over Thailand to take part in the Imagine Cup Thailand 2016 competition. They emerged victorious in the Game Design competition with “Timelie” – an innovative puzzle game that lets players manipulate time to overcome challenges. The winner in each category of the Imagine Cup 2016 World Finals will receive a $50,000 cash prize (approximately 1.7 million baht) as well as a chance to become the sole winner of the year’s Imagine Cup trophy – plus an exclusive private session with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.
