Start-up launches writers’ platform

Storylog.co, fictionlog.co are for non-fiction and fiction writers and readers, respectively

With the aim of becoming a leader in user-generated content, the non-tech startup Storylog recently launched a self-publishing platform.
Founded in 2014, the company’s unveiling of fictionlog.com follows the launch of its debut user-generated platform, storylog.co, early last year.
storylog.co and fictionlog.co are designed for non-fiction and fiction writers and readers, respectively.
Storylog founder Pippo Pramewith Pippo said he created the company because of his desire to help the publishing industry, especially writers.
The idea of Storylog is to remove the middle men in the industry including traditional publishers and distributors to allow writer to tap readers directly.
He was also driven by a desire to help writers write and encourage people to read more.
storylo.co was initially meant to be a blogging platform providing a space for writers and readers to share options. It was upgraded to its current form to capture more people and provide a revenue mechanism for writers.
stotylog.co has some 300,000 monthly active users, more than 60,000 stories available to readers and over 10,000 writers.
“Every month, we have some 5,000 new stories uploaded to the platform,” Pippo said.
fictionlog.co is designed to help writers earn revenue from publishing works. The concept allows readers to read the first four chapters for free. After that, they pay for each chapter read.
Revenue is shared between the author and the company down the middle.
“With our platform, the writer gets 50 per cent of selling price, while only only 10 per cent in traditional publishing system,” Pippo said. “The 50 per cent we take is for management and operational costs including the payment system.”
After officially launching almost two weeks, fictionlog.co has amassed some 200 titles from 17 writers and has about 15,000 readers.
“We designed fictionlog.co as a game in which everyday we give ‘coins’ to users who login to the website. They can spend coins to buy chapter two to chapter four. Users will get more coins the more they participate with the website. For example, reviewing a story,” Pippo said.
He added that the company is focusing on building the community of writers and readers, especially fiction stories to help writers have revenue from publishing their fiction while to facilitate readers to easily buy fiction per chapter with no need to wait for the whole completed book.
“Up to date, we have been invested from Ookbee only. We do not have a plan to raise funds. Our current focus is to build the platform community. We want to grow in every metric, including number of revenue, stories [titles], writers, and readers,” said Pippo. He said it is expected to have revenue to cover operation cost by early next year. fiction.co is the new emerge platform, it needs to scale. Meanwhile, storylog.co is blogging platform that it is not expected to generate revenue from advertising model.
“For storylog.co, we plan to use the same business model with fictionlog.co since we want to help writers have revenue from their stories,” said Pippo.
He said with little resource of 10 people, it now focused on ficitonlog.co first and then will upgrade storylog.co later to capture wider groups of writers and readers, to not only be people who love to write and love to read, but it would be platform for everyone who sharing stories while earning from stories they shared, even through brands and businesses.
“We would like our platforms to hselp writers be benefit from their writings, it is sustain model,” said Pippo.
In case, writers would like to have on demand printing for their stories, Ookbee will be a choice for them, but in case they want to have a book , even or e-book, Ookbee is not be more favor than other
publishers.
