The forum, “Trade Winds Asean”, is scheduled to be held from March 13 to 15 at the Avani+ Riverside Bangkok Hotel.
“This is an opportunity to strengthen economic cooperation and boost business growth for the prosperity of two countries,” said Marisa Lago, US undersecretary of Commerce for International Trade.
She added that the Indo-Pacific region, including Thailand, has great potential in technology and innovation, adding that American businesses are paying close attention to these sectors.
“The US representatives are ready to offer modern technology to enable partners in the Indo-Pacific region to achieve the target on climate change and clean energy,” she said.
She added that some US representatives scheduled to attend the forum come from companies related to telecommunications, environment technology and healthcare.
She believes that Thailand will help the US with trade and investment in advanced technologies such as energy and electric vehicles.
“Promoting cooperation on trade and investment is at the heart of Trade Winds,” she said.
When asked about the uncertainty over the US-China tech war, Lago said the US does not want to break economic ties with China but wants to streamline the global supply chain.
The US is focusing on strengthening the global supply chain, she said, adding that this issue is key as it will boost prosperity for the US and Thailand.
She added that Washington is working with 12 countries, including Thailand, to boost trade and investment in the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) for things such as training on digital literacy and cybersecurity among partners.
Lago also said she would work towards further strengthening trade and investment ties between the US and Thailand.
Last year, Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai and his US counterpart Anthony Blinken, signed a statement on strategic alliance and partnership, focusing on solidifying the supply chain and promoting trade and digital transformation.
