Liquid cement fell from a construction site onto a car around Muang Thong Thani Station, damaging the car's rear windshield and causing minor injuries to a passenger in the backseat, who was taken to hospital for medical evaluation.
Suriya said he had ordered a 7-day suspension of activities at the construction site and an investigation into the construction procedures of the Northern Bangkok Monorail Company, which holds the concession for the site.
He demanded the prevention measures be reported to the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRT).
Also, the MRT has been tasked with maintaining a record of contractors’ scores. In the event of accidents, deductions will be made from these scores, and this will affect future bidding attempts of the companies.
This measure aims to encourage companies to take greater responsibility and prevent the recurrence of similar incidents, Suriya said.
The Pink Line rapid transit system connects Bangkok’s Minburi district with Nonthaburi province, covering 30 stations along its 34.5-kilometre route.
The MRT Pink Line is one of two new rapid transit lines that opened in Bangkok last year. The other is the MRT Yellow Line, which connects Lat Phrao and Samrong.
