People believe opposition performed slightly better than govt in first 2 months: poll

An opinion survey found that Thais rate both the government and the opposition’s performance high in their first two months in office, though the opposition led the scores slightly.

The survey was conducted by Suan Dusit University from October 30 to November 3 among 1,132 respondents. The results were announced on Sunday.

The poll said the government had earned an average score of 5.52 points on a scale of 1 to 10, while the opposition won 5.86 points.

When asked to name the steps the government has taken in the first two months to give hope to the people, the respondents replied:

• 51.54%: Reducing the price of energy, travel, electricity and cooking gas.

• 49.30%: Policies on the economy and infrastructure development.

• 49.11%: Upgrading universal healthcare services.

When asked to name the achievements of the opposition in its first two months in office, the respondents replied:

• 85.05%: Monitoring against the government.

• 69.16%: Alerting the public of key issues in society.

• 61.03%: Supporting the government’s works.

Respondents were allowed to choose more than one answer for both questions.
