Re: Just how sick is the Western world (Letters, 24th March)

Yet again, in the wake of a terrorist outrage, JC Wilcox rises to the bait. No, the Western world isn’t sick, as evidenced by the dignity and resolve evident in the response to the attack by the British Parliament, and by ordinary Londoners, which shames Mr Wilcox’s latest intemperate outburst.
Of course the dangers posed by fanatics driven by a warped vision of Islam are real, and incredibly difficult to counteract, not least because of Europe’s ineffective control its borders, but it is worth pointing out that the attacker in London was British born and bred. He also appears to have
been a troubled individual, with a history of violent behaviour, so as yet it is not clear to what extent his murderous attack was prompted by radical Islamic beliefs.
It might be better, in the event of future such attacks, and there will be more, if Mr Wilcox were to keep his spite and prejudice to himself. His comments are utterly useless, they contribute nothing
of value, in fact by demonising a religion they just add fuel to the fire.
