Blue Coat, a provider of Web security and wide-area-network optimisation solutions, expects business growth in Thailand of 20-25 per cent this year.

The firm also uses its Thailand office as a base to expand into the Indochina region, which it sees as a market with high potential for growth.
Simon Molenberg, managing director of Blue Coat Systems in Asean, said expectations of revenue growth in Thailand of about 20-25 per cent from last year were based on the fast-growing market, the increasing concerns about security of the enterprise and corporate Web environment, and the increasing use of cloud computing and tablet and other mobile devices.
The company, with an eye to the Indochina market, has joined with business partners to distribute its products into Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia.
For the Vietnamese market, the company is working with Blue Coat’s Singapore and Malaysia contacts to transfer knowledge and prove its concept support to customers and local partners in the market.
“I think that Thailand is an important market for us, since it is growing fast and the government has initiated many projects which will drive market growth,” Molenberg said.
The company has also launched new unified Web security solutions, focusing on enterprise- and corporate-related banking, telecommunication, and the private, education and manufacturing sectors.
Jonathan Andresen, vice president of Asia-Pacific marketing for Blue Coat Systems, said the unified Web security solution provided global threat defence, universal policies, and unified reporting.
Among mobile users, 52 per cent have three or more devices, while 22 per cent have two devices and 26 per cent one device. There has been a 240-per-cent increase in malicious site activity and two-thirds of all attacks are from malnets (malware networks).
The social network is also a risk channel that attracts cyber-crime attacks, Andresen said. Thailand now has about 14.6 million Facebook users and 83 per cent of the online Thai population can access it. The company says that as a result, it is important to utilise security gateways on smart phones and tablets, since 60 per cent of devices are used for work and personal purposes.
