The PP Group proved it’s going to be an amazing autumn and winter with a show last week at the Grand Hyatt Erawan of the goodies it’s importing from Emilio Pucci, Loewe, Yves Saint Laurent, Celine, Mandarina Duck and fast-rising American brand Tory Burch.
PP director Suwadee Puengboonpra said retro will rule through the cooler months and menswear will be more masculine. Also, watch for matching prints, such as plaid and geometric designs.
Tory Burch, founded seven years ago in New York, has finally landed in Thailand, bringing elegant and trendy appeal. You must have seen the Reva ballet flats that Paris Hilton, Blake Lively and South Korean pop stars the Wonder Girls made famous.
Now Tory Burch is mixing classic American sportswear with English “country” style, in exaggerated palazzo trousers that graze the ground, full skirts and long coats. You can mix and match tweeds with plaid, velvet with chiffon and lace with sequins.
Handbag brand Mandarina Duck offers the “unexpected” in the form of multifunction bags in four models and six colours. You get three bags in one, one inside the other, separated by “magic tape” partitions – and thus more room for your stuff.
The rubber-coated fabric can be washed, and there are polyester dust covers for the outermost bags. Also, don’t miss Mandarina Duck’s new logo: The initials form a “smiley duck”.
Celine’s six classic looks continue its penchant for energetic women who aren’t afraid to show their masculine side. Inspired by vintage cars, it’s utilised leather and the Cocobolo motif.
The cloth is shaped to suggest more inner volume and curves, and the exterior details look three-dimensional in contrasting fabrics of different colours.
The French brand also has a great tuxedo suit and V Tip shoes of hardened leather for that grown-up confidence.
Emilio Pucci of Italy sends ladies on a voyage through a dark forest to a fairytale castle. A Garuda print, inspired by the peacock and Cerchi design, is used in Pucci’s first foray into hand-painting.
The solid dresses show delicate craftsmanship with embellished Loden, flannel, velvet appliquees and overprinted jacquards. An evening gown with embellished cabochons looks like jewellery.
Loewe focuses on ready-to-wear jackets and coats made from high-class Nappa leather, ostrich skin and fur, interestingly mixed with soft cashmere silk. Its signature Oro tone, offset by pop hues, appears on handbags of suede and refined calfskin, like the Amazona for the shoulder, Ida for shopping, and a classic with an edge, the Alta.
Yves Saint Laurent folds Parisian chic and some vivid colours into its customary black-and-white look, but with added masculinity in a jacket, trouser suit and skirt suit. Femininity is preserved with a white muslin silk shirt.
Suave dresses also in white muslin silk are draped and see-through, but again, there’s a touch of manliness to the belt and gold-chain bracelets included.
YSL’s extravagant Chyc Cabas bag is being touted as the new “It bag”. Bearing the “Y” logo, it comes in two styles – Chyc Cabas Supple and Chyc BaBas Stiff. The first is casual and sporty, the second regally elegant.
Already seen in the company of actresses Sienna Miller and Kate Winslet, the bags are available in black, brown, purple, red and even leopard print – which is probably why Lady Gaga has one too.
