Seeing Red with Jetset'er

Seeing Red with Jetset'er

The pop-soul quartet put on their debut concert in support of a whisky brand

Jetset’er is one of the regular acts performing at music festivals and nightlife venues, so it comes as something of a surprise that despite almost seven years in showbiz the band has never put on a solo concert of its own.
That’s about to change. The Chiang Mai-born pop-soul quartet that debuted in 2005 with “The Album” will put on a show next month at Moonstar Studio.
“Our chance came after we moved to [GMM Grammy affiliate] Sanamluang and came about because we have the same DNA as Johnnie Walker Red Label, which is re-branding a product. We have a passion for what we do and we are still inspired, so we turned from salary earners to musicians. Our song ‘Kao Pai’ [‘Step Forward’], is about our turning point,” says Titsadee “O” Srimuang, the band’s guitarist.
The “Music Inspiration” concert also has the slogan “super production, super show and super guests”.
“Jetset’er isn’t a very popular band with stacks of hits to its credit but we believe that more than 1,000 of our fans will be there to support us at the concert. There’ll be plenty of warmth” says the 32-year-old guitarist, who was joined at the interview by 32-year-old bassist Worapoj “Moo” Wisarutnart, drummer Jarnnawut “Eddie” Jarnyaharn, 31, and vocalist Pipitpol “T” Khumratana, 30.
“Inspiration is very important. I have my guitar heroes and songwriters. We write our own musical works, which I like to think can be an inspiration for the next generation. We’ve all been playing music since high school but nobody thought we’d have our own concert. It’s an important step,” he adds.
The concert will be divided into six main parts, including an acoustic set that will feature songs from that band’s first album that weren’t promoted. The third part will highlist singer T’s side project. And the fourth and fifth parts are a surprise, “so I can’t talk about them here”, O says. For the finale, the band will offer a few covers and guests, including Nuengthida “Noona” Sophon, will take part.
The band, popular with university students and first-jobbers, released its latest album “Jet’s” last year. It featured four cuts: “Nam Phueng Phrachan” (“Honeymoon”), “Khuen Nee” (“Tonight”), “Yim” (“Smile”) and “Sense”. A hit compilation, “The Spirit of Jetset’er” followed shortly after.
“Our music is like yin and yang. It’s easy-listening with T’s mellow voice and showcases our levels of skill and musicianship. At this concert, we will play more than 30 songs and covers. Fans can expect something different with the covers – we’re having fun with the arrangements,” says O, who’s also the music director.
“I loved the lighting at Shaday’s concert. Sometimes less really is more. I think here in Thailand, we often make the mistake of focusing the lighting on the singer only and forgetting the rest of the band.
“What’s important is that fans go home with smiles on their faces,” he says.
