The famed champagne opens its own bar in the Emporium for a week

France’s swanky champagne brand GH Mumm brings their bubbly closer to aficionados with Thailand’s first pop-up champagne bar in the middle of the Emporium, offering tasty yummies and champagne cocktail as additional treats.
When Thais were first introduced to GH Mumm champagne a while back, the fizzy drink was only available in five-star hotels and very high-end restaurants. Now anyone can take a sip and enjoy the 200-year-old luxurious legacy almost anywhere, including in the middle of a mall during their shopping break.
It began in Reims back in 1827 when brothers Jacobus, Gottlieb and Phillip Mumm came up with such excellent ways to make champagne that each bottle has been decorated with the prized Cordon Rouge (red ribbon) of the Legion d’Honneur since 1875. Created by Napoleon I as the highest French civilian distinction, the red ribbon stands for the brand’s “quest of perfection, spirit of adventure and panache” that patrons can still enjoy today.
GH Mumm produces a great selection of champagne, but what’s being served at La Maison GH Muum are two bubblies in the Classic category; GH Mumm Cordon Rouge and GH Mumm Brut Rose.
The distinctiveness of the GH Mumm vineyard is reflected in this classic blend of Cordon Rouge: a predominance of Pinot Noir, a strong presence of Chardonnay and a touch of Pinot Meunier. To complete the union and ensure stylistic consistency, the Cellar Master adds 25-30 per cent of reserve wine, which brings additional complexity and depth to the final blend. A glass of Cordon Rouge is Bt450, and a bottle is Bt3,950.
If you prefer your bubbly subtle with fragrant note, get a flute of GH Mumm Brut Rose. In keeping with the Champagne legacy, the GH Mumm house produces a Brut Rose that recalls the iconic Cordon Rouge. The Cellar Master selects 12-14 per cent of red wines from villages famed for their pinots, such as Bouzy, Verzenay or Riceys on the Cote des Bar. Once the balance is achieved by the addition of reserve wines, the final blend is dominated by pinot noir and chardonnay, with the addition of pinot meunier. Order a glass at Bt550, or a bottle at Bt4,919.
Feeling adventurous? The bar has an array of champagne cocktails to offer, too, from Bt300 to Bt350 a glass. Get a Kir Royal with blackcurrant liqueur and fresh raspberry, or a Classic Champagne Cocktail with Angostura Bitter and tangy lemon twist. If you like sweet and sour drink, order a French 75 – a smooth and refreshing blend of gin, brandy-soaked Maraschino cherry, lime juice and sugar. For a contemporary touch, there’s Vanilla Vintage with Absolut Vanilla, vanilla liqueur and lime.
There are delectable yummies to pair with the bubbly. The food menu, created by Josephine Jonot, the Maison Cordon Rouge’s chef, offers four deluxe canapes including truffle and macaroon foie gras, lime marinated chicken, crispy scallop in truffle oil and prawn in aubergine puree – all from Bt100 per piece. Mixed cheese platter with dried fruits can also be had at Bt220.
The bar was launched last Tuesday with the champagne sabering ceremony by Henri Hallin, the Deputy Ambassador and Maitre de Caveau of La Confrerie de Sabre d’Or – the association that maintains the art of champagne sabering tradition.
