This editorial was spot-on. “The culture of the corporation permeates down from the top” is a crucial phrase and the clue to explaining my disappointment over recent interviews and features concerning the CEO of Minor International, William Heinecke, a leading figure of the Thai business community.
Personally, I would love to know more about the man and his principles – what drives him on, how he marries business with ethics and thoughts on the industries associated with his own organisation.
For example, how does he view long-term sustainability in the hospitality industry with regard to both his own local and international brands?
What tensions and complications can arise when an international company is employed to operate a local hotel? What special skills and values are required in the management of international brands, compared to local ones?
Is there a link between obesity and fast food? If so, does the fast food industry have a role to play in educating people to maintain a healthier lifestyle?
In the business world is corruption inevitable?
Can Heinecke be tempted to write articles on such matters?
