Sanchai clothing designer Jirat Subpisankul will represent Thailand in the Wisdom of Thai Textile fair that the Culture Ministry’s Cultural Promotion Department is hosting for the Queen’s birthday today.
Jurat and nine other top designers from across Asia will on Wednesday at 6pm put on a fashion show of 50 costumes made with Thai fabrics to wrap up the fair in Siam Paragon’s Lifestyle Hall.
The exposition has nine zones that cover, among other subjects, the manufacturing process at Her Majesty’s projects throughout the country. Silk, cotton and other materials are featured and textile weaving will be demonstrated.
Royal portraits on view
The painting exhibition “The Queen’s 80th Birthday – 80 Paintings to Honour the Mother of Thai People” is at the Emporium until Wednesday.
In fact it features portraits of both the Her Majesty the Queen and His Majesty the King by Yudthakit Plasomphol, Thoedsak Chaiyakan, Watchara Klakhakhai, Chingchai U-domcharenkij, Baanjob Putipin, Suwit Tangsombat and Eak Kajangchoy.
Profits from the sale of the art will go to Her Majesty’s Support Foundation, the Friends In Need (of Pa) Volunteers Foundation and the Red Cross Foundation.

Old ways are still the best
You can also celebrate Her Majesty’s birthday by visiting the free exhibition “Pressing, Perfuming and Preserving: Caring for Textile in the Inner Court” at the Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles.
Continuing through September 30, it shows, among many other things, how the women of old Siam dyed clothing with plant pigments, concocted perfume from flower extracts and made good use of a handmade teak pleating machine. The traditional techniques are explained in text, video – and in person. Museum staff will show you how to dress as a lady of the court, using classical attire.
Textile experts including Ajarn Paothong Thongchua will share (in Thai) the history and describe preservation efforts every Saturday from 1 to 3pm. Find out more at (02) 225 9430, extension 245, or
