After wowing the crowds with their mini concert “The Bromance of Tao Kacha”, True Academy Fantasia Season 8 alumni Sattapong “Tao” Phiangphor and Nontanun “Kacha” Anchuleepradit were back on stage last Sunday at CentrePoint Studio in Soi Lasalle for their debut show “Tao Kacha At Love The Series”.
Why the promoter chose to stage two rounds of the concert, each in front a crowd of 1,000 fans – the same as for a mini-concert – is open to question. Perhaps they were worried that the young singers lacked the experience to control a larger audience at a larger venue. If that were the case, I think it was a mistake. All it would take for a bigger concert to be a success is more investment in the production side and greater creativity on the design side.
Fans, who have continued to follow the two former AF8 contestants since the reality show, screamed as Tao and Kacha emerged on stage singing Justin Bieber’s “Baby” before slipping from suits to cute animal themed hoodies for Dong Bang Shin Ki’s “Balloons”.
Both Tao and Kacha have just released their first singles – “Phroh Ther Khon Diew” and “Ther Mai Pen Rai Tae Chan Pen” respectively – so most of songs in the set were covers of songs made famous by other artists, among them Boyd Kosiyabong, Musketeers, ETC, Siblor and senior AF alumni.
Kacha draw wild applause for playing keyboards on Christian Bautista’s “The Way You Look At Me” while Tao showed off his guitar prowess on Bruno Mars’ “Just The Way You Are”.
The appearance of former RS popular singer Somchai “Tao” Khemklad came as a surprise and he joined Tao and Kacha on “Phroh Ther Khon Diew” and “Bodyguard” before going solo on “Loke Thang Bai Hai Nai Khon Diew”.
Other guests were Watcharin “Tide” Ploingam and Annop “Por” Thongborisut from AF7, who jammed on a medley of luk thung numbers that included “Rak Dai Eek”, “Ya Khor Mor Lam” and “Jangsee Man Tong Thorn.”
Tao and Kacha also brought two fans on stage to help them in a segment that blended the Korean series “Coffee Prince” with Thai sitcom “Sathanee Rak Pak Rob” before surprising the crowd with a tight Korean set that featured Brown Eyed Girls' “Abracadabra” and PSY’s “Gangnam Style”. They closed out the night with “Destiny”.
While Tao and Kacha impressed with their cuteness and gentle teasing, the show was so tightly scripted that it prevented them from acting naturally.
