The TGA will first hold the 78th Thailand Amateur Open, the country’s oldest golf competition, from October 16 to 19 at Panya Indra course, before next month’s Thailand Junior World in the seaside resort of Hua Hin. Event partners are Singha Corporation, CAT Telecom, Truevisions, Golf Channel, Fenix and Thai AirAsia.
“The Thailand Amateur Open, with the King Rama VII trophy up for grabs, has been staged since 1930 to find the country’s best amateur player. Most of our bestknown golfers have won the event,” said TGA president Rangsrid Luxsitanonda.
“This year, the tournament has attracted interest from top amateurs in 15 countries, including South Korea, Malaysia and Denmark. They’ll compete against our national players led by Somprat Rattanasuwan and Chanachoke Detchpiratmongkol. It will be a fascinating battle. Rising star Phuwit Anuphansuebsai is also featuring in the event.”
The Thailand Junior World event, to be held at Royal Hua Hin Golf Course between November 8 and 11, will help promote the country’s tourism industry, according to Rangsrid.
“The Thailand Junior World has been going for the past five years and attracted more and more interest each year. This time we have golfers from 18 countries. They will get an opportunity to interact with one another – a cultural exchange that will boost our tourism,” he said.
