Find out by trying a signature rice omelette with kimchi at fusion restaurant Omuto Tomato

Sitting proudly among the Japanese eateries and cafes that dominate the classy Gateway Ekamai shopping mall, Korean fusion restaurant Omuto Tomato offers a full range of its signature rice omelettes with no fewer than 40 choices of toppings.
Established a decade ago, Omuto Tomato now has 29 branches around Seoul and attracts the younger crowd who enjoy the relatively inexpensive and easy-to-eat main dishes and appetisers. Bangkok has the first outlet outside South Korea, with franchiser Tularat Yuenyongvithayakul and family launching the franchise back in July.
Located on the mall’s ground floor, the 40-seat Omuto Tomato is hard to miss, thanks to its orange walls and bright blue chairs surrounding natural wood tables. Tularat guarantees quality and great tastes and says that all the dishes are based on original recipes and made from the best ingredients, direct from local farms.
There are 25 dishes from which to choose and they are based on four sauces- tomato onion, chilli tomato, spicy Chinese and white cream. The 40 toppings include pumpkin, sweet potato, bacon, sweet corn, crabmeat, shrimp, burger and chicken.
“I came across Omuto Tomato by chance while I was shopping in Seoul a few year ago. Actually, I don’t like tomatoes, but I loved its tomato sauce, which has a wonderfully soft aroma and smooth flavour,” says Tularat. “All our rice omelettes come with kimchi and salad too.
Tularat says the aromatic rice is cooked with herb butter and rosemary then fried with three-coloured vegetables before being wrapped in an omelette.
I sample the rice omelette topped with crispy handmade pork in sweet scented tomato onion sauce for Bt185 and tanpopo rice omelette served with BBQ pork belly in a slightly spicy chilli tomato sauce for Bt205.
Other recommended dishes are rice omelette with sweet corn and bacon served in creamy white cream sauce for Bt165, spicy vegetable red curry with rice for Bt165 and Omuto green salad for Bt130.
Those not in the mood for eggs can go for Caesar salad, pumpkin soup, fries, spaghetti Carbonara or Omuto spaghetti with garlic olive oil.
Until next month, Omuto Tomato is offering 20-per-cent discounts across the board on weekday lunches.
