Nadech cuts out middleman

Heartthrob actor Nadech Kukimiya is obviously eyeing the director's chair with interest. A keen photographer, he's always snapping pictures of fellow cast members on his TV series, but he's also a fourth-year film student at Rangsit University and has now

With university funding, Nadech and several classmates have put together the short romance “Long Rak Lory” (unofficial translation “Falling in Love Immediately”), which will premiere at the Chiangkhan International Film Festival running from March 1 to 10.
Nadech also stars as a visitor to picturesque Chiangkhan on the banks of the Mekong River, where he falls in love (yes, immediately) with a local girl played by Apinya “Sai Pan” Sakulcharoensuk.
The college kids actually made the short film last year, ready to screen at the festival in December, but the event was postponed to March ostensibly to avoid high tourist season. That sounds counterproductive to us, but if Nadech attends the premiere, you can count on Chiangkhan getting crowded anyway.

New old news
Actress Ramita “Gypso” Mahapreukpong says the news media must have been snoozing at the keyboard when she quit studying accounting at chulalongkorn University a year ago, not far off graduation. It’s only just been reported in the press.
Sleepy-eyed reporters quizzed her about it at this week’s Kom Chad Luek Awards. “I have no idea why it’s suddenly become news,” she said, but anyway, now that we’re all caught up, she said she pondered leaving for three years before deciding to exit one of the top faculties in the country.
“With all respect to Chula, I think for myself, and Chula didn’t suit me,” she said. Gypso instead signed up for a University of London correspondence course, “more practical because I can adjust my hours” but still time-consuming. And that’s why she rarely sees her old classmates – not, as rumour had it, because she couldn’t get along with anyone, prompting her to quit Chula.
