Italian luxury brand Gucci celebrates summer with a fusion of purism and sensual accents. Flashes of skin are revealed through artful cut-outs while patent accessories hint at a playful fetish. Creative director Frida Giannini describes the outfits as “portraits of aristocratic women”.
During a recent showing at the brand’s boutique in the Emporium Shopping Complex, Siriyos Devahasdin Na Ayudhya, the public relations director of Central Department Store and the label’s licensed distributor, Gucci unveiled its ready-to-wear collection. Among the celebrities present at the event Araya Kanchanapongkula, Monlahcha Skulthai, Buppha Kingchatchawal, Supornthip Choungrangsee, Nithinun Arunvongse na Ayudhya, Intira Thanavisuth and Pattharapol Puengboonpra.
Giannini has come up with 18 different looks for spring-summer 2013, each with a strong allure and a clean, precise, defined aesthetic. The designer took her inspiration from Richard Avedon and Gian Paolo Barbieri’s historic photographs of their female icons.
Emphasising precision and sharpness, the collection comes in a palette of nuances from sharp azalea, bright orange, turquoise, electric blue and citrus yellow, interspersed with oriental prints including python and a sea anemone taken from Japanese wallpaper.
Silhouettes are sophisticated and filled with details, among them tunic effects with deep slits and clever cuts on the back, mini dresses with a cocoon shape and super long tapered dresses. Bell sleeves give volume to cocktail dresses, many with choker necklaces and featuring coral and turquoise applications.
For evening, Giannini suggests black or white organza mixed with embroidered tulle in a geometric net and in kimono style, imposing tiers on sleeves to redefine the lines of a column dress.
Accessories include interesting cage sandals with ankles decorated by the horsebit and booties to wear underneath pants.
Shoulder bags alternate with clutches in plexiglass carved in precious gemstone patterns.
