But there’s one guy looking a little glum – Sophon “Jim” Sakdapisit, who directed the 2011 hit “Laddaland”.
As it happens, he’s in charge of the next movie coming out of GTH, the follow-up to “Pee Mak” that everyone will be keenly watching – if not actually going to see. Talk about pressure! It’ll be another horror flick, only without the daffy comedy that gives ghost story “Pee Mak” its extra charm.
Sophon’s response to the mounting expectations has been to simply disappear. He’s closed all communication with the outside world until this whole “Pee Mak” thing blows over. That could happen as soon as May 29, when GTH will celebrate “Pee Mak” passing the Bt600-million mark, or whenever ticket sales finally start to subside, presumably later this century after it’s earned Bt600 billion.

Image factory
Sombatsara “Tue” Teerasaroch, whose firm Tue Production organises events, has more than 11,000 photos and 20,000 followers on his Instagram site “Tueslove”.
His shots of him with celebrities are a big draw of course, but even more popular are Tue’s pictures of his pets. “My dog Nam Keang has a lot of fans, much more than I ever had!” he tells Let’s Talk About magazine. “All the big actors and singers know him, and whenever he gets sick they’re all worried!” His cats Coco and Chanel compete for views.
And the third thing that earns Tue followers is the odd poses he strikes in his pictures, which he says is simply his way of sending out positive energy to his followers. Tue gets his chauffeur Mongkol to follow him everywhere, grabbing snaps. “I jokingly call him Phi Yai” – after famous lensman Amat ‘Yai’ Nimitpark.
It’s nice that Tue has his “own private photographer”, but you’d think he could pay his chauffeur a bit more with all the attention he’s getting on Instagram.
