We've welcomed Super Junior, CN Blue, TVQX, Big Bang and Beast, among others, and now it’s the turn of hot Korean boy band Infinite to drop into Bangkok. The seven-member band, which is currently celebrating its third anniversary has chosen to make Thailand the first stop on its debut world tour, dubbed “One Great Step” and will be at Thunder Dome in Muang Thong Thani on Saturday.
As with most South Korean acts, seated tickets virtually sold out within hours of going on sale and now the standing tickets are being snapped up. though as of press time, a few were still available.
“I really didn’t expect the concert to sell out and am thrilled at the great feedback from fans. My thanks go to Inspirit, the Infinite official fan club in Thailand for supporting this concert,” says Chalermchai “Kueng” Mahagitsiri, CEO of 411 Entertainment.
Chalermchai is taking his appreciation to the fan club a step further by inviting them to create wreaths made from rice and other projects and showcase them in the concert area. The rice, he adds, will be donated after the show to the Foundation for the Welfare of the Mentally Retarded of Thailand under the Royal Patronage of Her Majesty the Queen.
After the Thai gig, Sungkyu, Jang Dong Woo, Nam Woo-hyun, Hoya, Lee Sung-yeol, L and Lee Sung-jong, will continue to Singapore, Taiwan, China, and the Philippines before performing in the US, Europe and Peru.
The world tour aims to promote both their 2013 EP “New Challenge” and a singles album “Destiny”.
Infinite was first introduced to an adoring public in 2010 as part of the reality show “You Are My Oppa” before appearing on stage in June that year where they performed the tracks “Come Back Again” and “She’s Back” from the first EP.
In 2011, the seven-boys released the single “Before the Dawn” from their second EP “Evolution” and later that year came out with a first full-length album “Over The Top” and a music video of “Be Mine”. They also made their Japanese debut with a Japanese version of “BTD” and a show at Zepp Tokyo.
In 2012, the band performed their very first Korean concert, “Second Invasion”, in front of approximately 8,000 fans at the Seoul Olympic Park. Tickets for the concert sold out within 10 minutes of being released online.
Their second concert, also at the Seoul Olympic Park, packed in 10,000 fans and yet again, the tickets sold like hot cakes.
They also hold the distinction of being the first K-pop group to live stream a concert through YouTube.
The new mini album “New Challenge”, released in March, became the fourth biggest-selling album of the year and their Japanese debut album, “Koi ni Ochiru Toki” topped the Oricon album chart.
