The Sushi Den food conveyor belt is now whirring around Siam Square One

ALWAYS A great choice when you want to quell the rumbling in your tummy, the Sushi Den – a popular Kaiten-style restaurant – has a new selection of delectable dishes rolling along its conveyor belt to celebrate the opening of a fifth branch, at Siam Square One.
Founded three years ago by Kris Kiatfuengfoo and friends, the chain adheres to the original preparation of Japanese cuisine – including premium ingredients like fresh fish, prawns and scallops from Tokyo’s Tsukiji seafood market and salmon from Norway.
“Actually we opened our first Japanese restaurant, Kuu, at K Village five years ago,” says Kris. “We all loved sushi most, though, and decided we should have our own sushi bar. That inspired the Sushi Den at Central Lat Phrao three years ago. It’s sushi made with the best ingredients at reasonable prices.”
The new 60-seat branch has 150 square metres decorated simply with curving wood tables. Customers can take a ringside seat anywhere to select their favourite mouthfuls from the meandering conveyor belt.
Authentic in flavour and preparation, niniku shoyu zuke topped with fish is a highlight of the menu. We ordered a tray of three niniku shoyu hirame, shima aji and madai for Bt400, and some niniku shoyu zuke tuna (Bt85 apiece) and toro (Bt155).
“We’ve created a new sauce for the niniku shoyu zeke menu that makes the fish even tastier,” Kris points out. “And we’ve added spicy salmon yum don set to the lunch menu – only at Siam Square One.”
We carry on with the Aburi Set A (Bt220). It has salmon, buta, zuke maguro, hotate sushi and salmon skin maki kuu salad (seaweed with deep-dried shrimp salad for Bt85), the Hokkaido Bomb (grilled scallops in yellow cream sauce topped with ebi roe for Bt190) and Ebi Crunchy Rolls (Bt155).
We also try the Salmon Yum and Unagi Don sets, which include Japanese salad, miso soup, steamed egg and a scoop of vanilla ice cream for Bt230 and Bt360, respectively.
From the conveyor belt, diners can enjoy more delectable maki rolls and nigiri sushi with a variety of toppings, like hirame, tuna, salmon, aburi ebi mayo (grilled prawn), wagyu beef, foie gras, tako tempura and salmon roe.
To finish our meal, Kris recommends any of the green-tea desserts. The tempura ice cream (Bt75), green-tea pana cotta (Bt80), matcha green-tea jelly (Bt60) and kori matcha (Bt60) are all indeed delightful.
