Design magazine Livingetc celebrates a decade in Thailand with a pop-up store

HOME DEOR magazine Livingetc is celebrating a decade in Thailand by opening up a pop up outlet that doubles as a cafe and a design gallery on the first floor of Groove@CentralWorld.
Each zone has a different feel to reflect diversity in design, with its own scent and sound to enhance the experience. Iconic furniture and decorative items have been brought to decorate the place, including Le Corbusier’s LC4 daybed, Swedish design team Front’s big black Pig table with a tray on its back and 50’s design icon Drop Chair by Arne Jacobson.
The food is served on a wooden table that is almost seven |metres long, created by Thai |brand Panache and diners can choose to sit in the aluminium Navy chair first built for use on submarines in 1944, which has been in continuous production ever since.
The chair has become an icon of American design, appearing regularly in design magazines, fashion layouts and television series such as “Sex and the City” and “House MD”. With the famous 77-step process involving twelve parts being welded together for a seamless one-piece look, a proprietary heat-treatment process contributes to the chair’s strength, which has a life expectancy of 150 years and comes with a lifetime guarantee.
Diners can also sit on cheeky chair called Sexy designed by Nuttapong Charoenkitivarakorn of Sculpture brand. The dining chair features the cotton straps woven in a criss-cross pattern against steel and wood supports. The straps come in contrasting colours and the chair is also something of a film star, having appeared in “The Hunger Games”. Another Thai brand Yothaka also showcases a black-and-white armchair while furnishing items from American brand Jonathan Adler are also exclusively on display.
Every corner is scented with Vuudh products, and music is played through the latest state-of-the-art Bang & Olufsen.
More than 30 dishes have been created in collaboration with Jutharat Techapaibul from Tessa Homemade Cuisine and the author of “From My Fingertips” cookbook. They include a healthy Caprese Salad made with Parma ham, arugula, fresh tomato and fresh mozzarella cheese, Tuna Tartare and Avocado Salad with white wine and wasabi cream sauce, and Eggplant Cappuccino Soup.
Diners can indulge in the Pretty in Pink and Bangkok Sour signature cocktails or order Portuguese wine from an organic vineyard. The tea and coffee comes from Germany’s Ronnefeldt and France’s Cafes Richard respectively.
The pop-up store is open through October 10.
