Actor Parama "Panjan" Im-anothai is so scared of ghosts that he refuses to appear on those TV shows offering proof positive (wink, wink) that Thailand is haunted.

But he was scared NOT to say yes when director Chookiat Sakveerakul proffered a role in his latest horror film, “The Eyes Diary”. Panjan was too frightened to read the script first, but signed up anyway. He really admires Chookiat’s work, which has included such hits as “Grean Fiction”, the teen drama “Rak Hang Siam” (“Love of Siam”) and the spooky “13 Game Sayong”, a remake of Hollywood’s “13 Sins”.
In “The Eyes Diary”, Panjan plays Knot, whose girlfriend Pla (Focus Jeerakul) has died in an accident after they had a fight. He’s desperate to communicate with her “on the other side”, and finally manages to do so with the help of Modta (Chonnikarn Natejui), who’s had a similar experience.
The funny thing is that, as terrified of ghosts as Panjan is, he had no idea how to behave in the scene when Knot actually encounters one. You’d think that pop-eyed, deer-in-the-lights look would just come naturally given his phobia, but nope. “I’ve never seen a ghost, so I didn’t know how to act when my character sees one!” Panjan says. “But the director helped me a lot by explaining how I should interpret the feeling.”
Well, film-industry publicists have seen plenty of ghosts, and soon enough there were reports that members of the “Eyes Diary” cast and crew had experienced “strange situations” on the set. Panjan sensed some “strange energy” surrounding him, but that was nothing. Chonnikarn swears she saw “an old man” on the gloomy set. (That’s all we heard about it – “an old man”. Could have been the washroom attendant, but the inference was that the old fella was not of this world.) “Maybe one reason I didn’t actually see anything was that I didn’t have time to think about it,” Panjan says. “It was a really exhausting shoot. Sometimes I was on the set for 24 hours at a stretch. “But at least I’m not as scared of ghosts now, after working on this film. Now, whenever I’m in a dark, gloomy place, I don’t feel the evil anymore.”
“The Eyes Diary” opens on October 30.

Panna’s last hurrah

“Rew Talu Rew” (“Vengeance of the Assassin”) – the last movie made by director-action choreographer Panna Rittikrai – has finally been cleared for release, four months after his death from liver disease. It’s due in theatres on November 13.
Filming began on “Rew Talu Rew” several years ago, but studio Sahamongkol Film often keeps its projects in the freezer for a year or more, perhaps letting them ferment.
