Japanese restaurant Takumi, now in its new look at Swissotel Le Concorde offers a buffet selection that's second to none

A LONG-TIME favourite with people living and working in the Ratchadaphisek area, Japanese restaurant Takumi took up residence in a new look earlier this year and is now comfortably settled on the ground floor of Swissotel Le Concorde. Patrons fond of its Kyoto-style cuisine followed and the restaurant also branched out, adding a selection of Thai-Japanese fusion to its already impressive menu.
The decor is attractive too with the black floor offsetting the warm wooden walls. The dining area can seat 137 guests and there are also four private rooms kitted out with the traditional low Japanese tables that are ideal for parties and family gatherings. And for those with a special occasion coming up – or simply wanting an evening out – Takumi is currently offering a “Come 4 Pay 3” promotion on its dinner buffet every Monday to Wednesday through November 15.
The buffet tables groan under hundreds of sushi, sashimi, maki, soup, shabu and grilled dishes, as well as udon, tepanyaki and a range of interesting desserts. As one would expect, only quality ingredients are used, among them Australian beef and tuna, Japanese wagyu, salmon from Norway, squid from Japan and crab from Alaska.
“Customers particularly appreciate our ‘all-you-can-eat’ buffet, which is available for both lunch and dinner and costs Bt790 and Bt890 respectively,” says manager Somchai Dangsipol.
“There’s a wide variety of appetisers, maki, sushi, hot dishes and desserts from which to choose and we have added such fusion foods as maki rolls stuffed with salmon, avocado and cheese,” he adds.
The Mixed Maki plate includes the house’s Rock and Roll mix of salmon, avocado and spicy mayo roll, Green Maki (avocado stuffed with dory teriyaki), Philly Maki (sushi filled with cream cheese and salmon) and Patella Maki (sushi roll with seasoning seaweed, egg and ebiko).

Somchai recommends the Special Tartar, an interesting blend of spicy tuna and salmon tartar served with fried seaweed and sweet potato chips, the Mixed Seafood Tepanyaki with shrimp, scallops, salmon, squid and vegetables and the Salmon Salada – fresh salmon and ebiko salad with spicy dressing.
Pork lovers with enjoy the Buta Amiyaki (grilled pork belly with teriyaki sauce) and everyone will love the shrimp and vegetable Tempura Moriawase. Other favourites are the Gyoza pork dumplings, Sashimi Mori with salmon, tuna, crabsticks and octopus and Osui Mono – a clear soup with seafood.
And do save space for dessert: the Green Tea Ice Cream served with red bean, moji and soy milk and the Milk and Cheese Pudding are both worth sampling.
