Three Thai designer labels launch their new collection in an outdoor extravaganza at Siam Square One

NEWLY OPENED FASHION |centre Siam Square One recently brought together three Thai brands for an extravagant showcase dubbed “MTF Masked Metropolitan The Fashion Show” to its outdoor stadium. The event featured the new collections from Marihorn by Melissa Horn Lohtong and “Ellie” from Thea by Thara by Tawanna Thara and introduced the first designs from Kontras by Atcha Charoenratsameekiat.
Held on the theme “Unmasking the Hidden Beauties of the City”, the show kicked off with Tawanna Thara’s “Ellie” collection, which tells the story of a little bird – Ellie – as discovers the verdant nature unleashed by the arrival of spring.
“Thai designers are very lucky to have so much support from local consumers. This makes it easier for emerging designers to find their places on the fashion scene and I am grateful for that,” Tawanna told XP.
It’s also very rewarding that foreign tourists, celebrities and fashion bloggers are taking note of the work of Thai designers. They love the originality and artistic factors so it’s not a surprise to find that local designs are showing up in every corner of the world.”
Kontras was next up on the catwalk with fireworks marking the label’s debut and a dark night sky lit up by sparkling lights hinting at its readiness to move on to the next level.
“Thai designs are bringing more creativity to the fashion circle,” Atcha said, adding that while the country’s hot climate tends to limit winter season collections, it also makes the outfits designed for cooler weather more unique.
“I definitely think Thai fashion is going shoulder to shoulder with international fashion,” Atcha enthused. The showcase ended with a an interesting collection from Marihorn, which told its spring story through the eyes of an adventurous girl who has travelled the African Savannah, a wonderful kingdom of wild animals, green plants and red soil.
“Thailand’s fashion is evolving and will continue to develop because a lot of Thais are now quite interested in fashion. I think Thai designers are as good and talented as any international designers. Marihorn itself is becoming known to and accepted by consumers in many countries,” Melissa said.
