A Buddhist view on eating meat

Re: "More verbosity on vegetarian virtues", Letters, March 16.

As a former monk, I practise vipassana meditation. I also eat meat. These two facts are not necessarily inconsistent or incompatible.
Yet, adopting an extremely narrow and singular focus, letter-writer Eric Bahrt takes it as a personal affront when anyone suggests an alternative point of view to his own. He responds with a show of paranoia and as much vitriol as he can muster. In the case of his response to David Brown’s letter, he also manipulates parts of what Mr Brown wrote to meet his own purposes.
Lighten up, Mr Bahrt. You, of all people, should know that working yourself up into such a lather is bad for your health.
After all, you should be grateful to Mr Brown: his letter gave you the perfect opportunity to write yet another of your own on your pet topic.
