European furniture design store Habitat returns to Bangkok

SIX YEARS after closing its store at Siam Discovery and leaving Thailand, European-based international furniture, home decoration and home-ware retailer Habitat is back in the Kingdom with not one but two stores at Crystal Design Centre (CDC) on Ramintra Expressway and Crystal SB on Rajapruk.
“The success of this brand, which has been around since the 1960s, is that it demonstrates that useful can be beautiful and beautiful can be affordable’,” says Sutida Vichitkulwongsa, executive vice president of SB Furniture Group and executive director of Habitat Thailand.
“The new generation likes to reflect their identity through the way they decorate their homes and Habitat gives them the chance to showcase their minimalist ideas while ensuring that what they buy is functional.
“That’s why we decided to bring Habitat back to Thailand and have invested more than Bt100 million in opening the first two stores of Habitat Thailand,” she continues.
Both stores boast a comprehensive range of furniture, home decorative items and household goods for bedroom, living room, office, kitchen, dining room, bathroom, and furniture for kids.
“We can see the potential of the Thai market in terms of furniture and home decorative items and our research shows that Thais prefer tasteful and unique designs,” said Vincent Destailleur, chief executive of Habitat France
Leading members of the business community rubbed shoulders with celebrities at the recent launch party, among them Chadatip Chutrakul, chief executive of Siam Piwat, which owns and operates Siam Centre, Siam Paragon, Siam Discovery, and Paradise Park shopping centre, Kanachai “Kit” Bencharongkul, the youngest son of Dtac telecom tycoon Boonchai Bencharongkul, Hathairat Charoenchaichana, aka Oh Futon, avid photographer Pornpoj Karnchanahatakij, Supanavit Eiamsukulrat, executive director of KE Land, and actress Natalie Chiaravanond.
“I have been associated with art since my childhood, so I’m fond of everything related to design. I’ve been walking around the Habitat centre and I’m very taken with the Signature lamp inspired by origami. It is simple and smart with a modern design,” Kanachai told XP.
“I’ve just moved to a new condominium and am looking for a sofa. I like the one in fabric and leather and I get free delivery as it costs more than Bt5,000,” said artist Oh Futon.
“I was introduced to the Habitat brand while I was studying in Europe and love it. My new house is almost finished so I’ve started thinking about furniture and decoration,” added Pornpoj.
In celebration of its comeback, Habitat Thailand is promoting free membership. Join and you receive a five-per-cent discount on every purchase of a Habitat product.
