AS SOON as the dreary monsoon fades, you’re going to need a brighter wardrobe for winter, and a great place to start shopping is the new multi-brand boutique with an odd name – A-very-wear at Siam Center. Stocking apparel, accessories and jewellery from South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong, it pledges to suit you up in stuff that’s “very you”.
“Siam Center is an ‘Ideapolis’ and we’re always updating according to the latest trends,” says Phimphisa Wongsechinthan, who’s in charge of the zone.
“A-very-wear is the latest addition to our retail space, bringing Asian fashion that’s becoming very popular with youngsters. It has 12 new-wave designer brands from six countries, and all the items are selected with our ‘Absolute Siam’ collection in mind, available only at Siam Center. The latest edition is coming out in February.”
The racks, mannequins and display cases are full of great ideas. Among the best-known names from South Korea is Fleamadonna, which counts quite a few celebrities among its customers, including singer Pink, Paris Hilton,
Miranda Kerr and Girl’s Generation. Founded in 2007, the brand offers terrific laced tops, cropped and embroidered slacks, woven skirts, T-shirts adorned with pearls and quilt dresses.
Low Classic by Lee Myoung gives the modern minimalist look a twist with classic patterns on handcrafted woven skirts, V-neck knitted tops and knitted sweaters.
And Jim Park’s label Drink Beer Save Water has clothing as playful as its name, such as screened T-shirts with buttons, two-toned jackets and surprisingly posh-looking sweatpants.
The Singaporean designers represented include Linda Hao, who established the brand Yesah in 2013. The togs are all vivid colours and free form, for a funky streetwear look. There are gold and silver tops trimmed with fur, quilt skirts and mesh sport bags, as well as backpacks and waist pouches in neon pink and green.
Mash Up gets its inspiration from music, movies and travel experience for street-style T-shirts, embroidered maxi dresses and shocking pink printed swimsuits. Other items were created in collaboration with Uniqlo, Topshop, Lomography and Pioneer.
From Taiwan comes Yu Square by Ringo Yu, with some amazing sewing integrating embroidery into knitted blouses, skirts and even socks, all perfect for mixing and matching.
For stunning accessories, Momo’s March jewellery is quite practical and utilises Russian diamonds, brass, seashells, pearls and gemstones. American-born Taiwanese Christian Lu keeps in mind the concept “Wearable thought”, so think about it!
And from Japan there’s the wristwatch brand Normal Timepieces, proffering really stripped-down models with detachable straps, all designed by Ross McBride, who’s something of a scholar when it comes to Japanese culture.
VERY COOL
A-very-wear is on the first floor of Siam Center and open daily from 10 to 10.
