Two reports on Page 2 of Sunday’s newspaper left me in a quandary. At the top of the page was a picture of a farmer burning rice stalks in Nakhon Sawan, a practice I believe is illegal. On the left of the page was a report of worsening air quality and flight cancellations in the Northeast.
Every morning citizens across the whole of the Northeast awake to the smell and debris from the previous night’s burn-off. The sun is a dull orange orb and the sky is tinged brown.
Don’t the citizens realise that this continual burning is dooming them to a life of suffering from breathing problems and a temperature inversion that traps the heat, making the days hotter?
This problem occurs year after year and it gets worse each time.
