IN CELEBRATION of the launch of its new store on the second floor of Gaysorn Shopping Centre, A-List Private, distributor of Leica cameras in Thailand, joined with Leica Camera Asia-Pacific in bringing together a collection of more than 30 rare cameras owned by Thai collectors.
“This is a new beginning for the world-class camera, which has existed for more than 100 years. We are delighted to present both this new store and the ‘Leica Heritage’ exhibition, which I am sure will fascinate anyone who is interested in our products,” said Danai Sorakraikitikul, A-List Private’s managing director.
The launch event was attended by former Prime Minister Anand Panyarachun and a number of celebrities including Natee Masathienvong, Dr Ton Chiratiwat, Amata Chittasenee, Nicha Jurairattanaporn, Chaniphol Kusolcharttham, Chutimon Sakulthai, Taron Liptapallop and Alisa Jarupilun.
Collector Chamnong Bhirombhakdi has kindly lent five cameras to the exhibition, among them the Leica 60, which was produced in 2014 to mark the 60th anniversary of the Leica M – the first in the Leica M series. Just 600 pieces of this very special camera were produced and Chamnong’s was the ninth in the lot.
Chamnong’s Leica M Edition 100, created to mark the brand’s centenary, is also on display. Just 101 of these special sets were produced, and they bring together a mechanical rangefinder camera for film photography – the Leica M-A – with a digital Leica M (Leica M Monochrom) and three Leica Summilux-M lenses with focal lengths of 28, 35 and 50 mm.
His Leica M6 camera and Summicron 90 mm f/2 lenses, which he used as he followed His Majesty the King on his trips around the country, are on show, as is his Leica M6 Colombo’92 500th Anniversary Special Limited Edition, created to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus and the Leica M6 camera, which was released to mark the 50th anniversary of the accession of the King to the throne, Both the camera and the Summicron 55mm f/2 lens are covered with 24 karats of gold and top-quality red leather.
Guests at the lunch enjoyed taking photos in the studio on the theme of “Gentleman” and had great fun posing at the photo booth.
