Re: “Science is open-minded on the existence of God”, Letters, yesterday.

David Brown writes that he’s an atheist, and I respect that. But the reason I call myself an agnostic is because I can’t say I don’t believe in God when I’m not sure what is meant by the word. Albert Einstein serves as an example here.
Many believers have claimed Einstein as one of their own because he often referred to “God” in his writings. But Einstein made it clear he was using the word as a metaphor and did not believe in a supreme being. He also said the concept of God encompasses the unexplainable mysteries of life. That’s an admission that science can’t explain everything, which leaves the door open for the existence of some force beyond our understanding that makes the world possible. If that force is called God, then I am a believer.
