Thailand Tatler has named Le Normandie at the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok the best restaurant in Bangkok, with Mezzaluna and Gaggan in second and third places.

The magazine announced its top10 list for 2017 at the EmQuartier recently in front of 500 guests including chefs, restaurateurs and socialites.

Everyone was treated to delicious fare from the prize-winning restaurants and, for the first time in the history of the magazine’s fine-dining guide, there were also six “Best of” awards.

A judging panel spent months anonymously sampling the menus at 150 establishments around Bangkok, scoring them on food, setting, drinks and service.

Rounding out the top 10 list are, in descending order, L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon, Elements, Suhring, Le Du and M Krub sharing seventh spot, 80/20, and J’Aime by Jean-Michel Lorain.

The winners of the best-of awards were chosen based on reviewers’ scores and editors’ opinions. As is the practice at all Asian Tatler editions, shortlists were compiled and votes were taken to select the award recipients.

Dallas Cuddy of Freebird was named best new chef, the Dining Room at the House on Sathorn has best interior design, Savelberg offers the best service, Cocotte is the best new restaurant, Acqua the best upcountry restaurant, and Duangporn Songvisava of Bo.Lan is “local champion”.

“Thailand Tatler Best Restaurants” has been a useful guide for affluent locals and overseas visitors since 2001. Each establishment is given a comprehensive description, plus ratings for setting, food, wine and service.

Available from Asia Books and other leading bookstores from April 22, the 16th edition also includes surveys of the latest developments in food and wine in Phuket, Samui, Pattaya, Hua Hin and Chiang Mai.

All reviews from the guide are also published online at Dining.ThailandTatler.com.
