Twin brothers Thomas and Mathias Suhring of the Bangkok restaurant Suhring will sharing their German cuisine at Pru in Phuket, famed for its farm-to-table fare.

The sibling chefs will be at the Trisara beach resort’s restaurant on June 16 and 17 as part of the “Fine Dining Lovers Guest Chef Series” sponsored by Sanpellegrino. The idea is to use the mineral water to enhance the dining experience, and chefs are being flown in from around the world.
Thomas and Mathias started thinking about becoming chefs during annual school-holiday visits to their grandparents’ farm. They learned about German traditions in fermentation, pickling, smoking, drying and curing.
With experience in European Michelin-star restaurants, they moved to Thailand and opened Suhring in Bangkok’s Chong Nonsi district early last year. It’s since won several awards and was ranked 13 on this year’s “Asia’s Best Restaurants” list.
At Suhring the brothers showcase the best modern German fare, inspired by childhood memories and family recipes, classics combined with contemporary influences. The restaurant occupies a cosy house, with the living room for dining and a glassed-in studio with garden views. The twins can be observed working in their kitchen.
The menu at Pru will begin with Berlin street food, pickled mackerel and “Brotzeit Picnic” served with Zillinger and Heinrich wines.
Next come Leipziger Allerlei (pike, crayfish and vegetables) and soft egg noodles with truffle, paired with Koehler-Ruprecht and Stagard wines.
The main course will be Hungarian duck with a Meyer-Nokel wine and dessert is a traditional apfelstrudel, accompanied by a Kracher wine.
The restaurant’s name stands for “plant, raise and understand”, which is the philosophy governing its farm in Phuket, where all the vegetables, herbs and fruit are grown, animals raised, butter churned and plates created from driftwood and recycled food waste.
Head chef Jim Ophorst, was Thailand’s contestant for the San Pellegrino Young Chef Award in 2016.
The price for the Suhring feast is Bt2,900-plus for the food only and Bt3,900 with wine included.
Consider spending the weekend at the Trisara. They’ll knock 40 per cent of the price of your suite or villa if you type in the promotion code “SP40” when booking a stay between June 16 to 19 at www.Trisara.com.
