Inspired by the sharp angles and clean lines from the heyday of American car design, he and his team hand-sculpted the original prototype. Cast in bold red acrylic and polished to perfection, this enormous object – measuring 75-centimetres long by 33 cm- will rule any tabletop in your home.
In the collection of lucite pieces in surreal sizes is also Amoeba sculpture - a modern interpretation of a classic starburst sculpture with a nod to the organic forms of the sea. The sculpture starts its journey in New York’s Soho pottery studio where Adler and his team of ceramicists hand sculpt models that are then cast in acrylic and polished.
Like a Roman marble ruin on acid, his giant foot sculpture is a surrealist piece in purple cast in lucid acrylic that will change from fuchsia to lavender to rose, depending on how the light hits it. Perfect as whimsical centrepieces or for display, there are also acrylic hippo and giraffe’s neck sculptures finished and polished by hand.
Adler is an author and TV personality who launched his business two decades ago with a ceramic collection for Barneys New York. In 1999 he expanded into home furnishings and opened a boutique in Manhattan. Today, he has more than 25 outlets around the world, selling what’s called “modern American glamour” – items that can be mixed and matched while bringing joy and optimism to the home.
There are Jonathan Adler showrooms at Central Chidlom and Groove@ CentralWorld.
