Co-organised by Siam Piwat – the operator of Siam Paragon, Siam Center and Siam Discovery- and the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the highlights of the festival are a giant durian and pineapple, each weighing more than two tonnes.
“The festival is not only showcasing popular dishes, desserts and beverages, but also Thai fruits and rice grains directly from farms. They’ll be laid out on tuk tuks that have been given a new look by students from several universities,” says Mayuree Chaipromprasith, senior executive vice president of Siam Piwat.
The tuk tuk kiosks will present signature dishes from famous eateries in the Siam Square including Rod Dee Det, Doo Dee Siam Noodle, and Lim Lao Ngow. Many restaurants located at Siam Paragon, Siam Center and Siam Discovery including Laem Charoen Seafood, Nara, Kangbanphe, Food Republic, My Kitchen, Sansab, Ta Too Noodle, Cafe Chili, and Homsuwan will also bring their famous dishes to the festival
The event has also allocated space for art lovers, showing tuk tuks painted by well-known artists and celebrities on the theme of Thai food, Thai rice, and Thai fruits. The participants artists and brands include Jitsing Somboon, Somnuek Klangnok, Tube Gallery, Closet, P-Seven Art, Sombatsara Teerasaroch, Wasan Puengprasert, Prapakas Angsusingha, Prakarn Raiva, and Sopidnapa Chumpani.
“Thai fruit is the pride of our country. My work is often inspired by fruit so I painted a woman wearing a traditional Thai dress in mangosteen stripes incorporated with durian, mango, and coconut,” says artist Somnuek.
Tomorrow at 5 to celebrate the opening, visitors can enjoy many fun activities including the “Ong Bak” stage play and stunt show and turns by superstars Mario Maurer and Nittha “Mew”.
