Japan Foundation continues to mark the 130th anniversary of Japan-Thailand diplomatic relations and also celebrates the 150th anniversary of Natsume Soseki’s birth by organising two special talk events featuring Prof Shoji Shibata from Tokyo Universities of Foreign Studies.

The first part of the seminar “Natsume Soseki and Modern Japan” takes place this Sunday (November 5) at Chiang Mai University’s Faculty of Humanities and runs from 9 until noon.

On Monday (November 6), a public talk is being held at Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University from 8.30 to 12.30pm.

Content, which will be provided in Thai and Japanese, covers Japanese literature and society and many more interesting aspects of Natsume Soseki’s works.

Soseki is one of the great Japanese novelists who lived during the Meiji period. His best-known novels are “Kokoro,” “Botchan” and “I am a Cat” and his unfinished work “Light and Darkness.”

His portrait appeared on the front of the Japanese 1000 yen note during 1984-2004. In Japan, he is considered the greatest writer in modern Japanese history.

All guests are welcome and admission to both events is free of charge.
