Prayut must go for sake of future

Re: “Government can’t ignore shift in public sentiment”, Editorial, February 1.

I agree with your editorial, that the military-backed government of Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, which came to power as a result of the 2014 coup, should realise that it has been in power for too long already.
A government that comes from a coup should have prepared to leave the scene after one or two years. However, the Prayut government doesn’t seem to be willing to leave after four years have passed.
Even though Thais are thankful to the military for stepping in to stop the 2014 political turmoil that had brought the country to a standstill, we still want democracy to happen in our country for the sake of children and their future.
Hence, Gen Prayut should consider leaving politics – and leave it to the civilians to handle all national affairs – for the sake of national unity.
The dissenting voices are growing. We all fear that they will become louder and louder if these calls for Prayut to leave the scene are still unheeded.
