Locals and tourists take part in Songkran festivities nationwide.

With hundreds of thousands of Bangkok workers having already headed back to their home provinces for Songkran, there is a silver lining for those who have opted to stay in the capital or are required to continue working through the holiday period.

National Museum Bangkok is hosting the “Relics and Navagrahas Puja” in a traditional Thai New Year ceremony on Thursday.

Authorities are preparing a “Safe Songkran” programme in an attempt to limit the number of casualties too often associated with the fun annual festival.
