The Commerce Ministry is organising Blue Flag fairs in northeastern provinces affected by the Podul and Kajiki storms, enabling low-income people and farmers to buy cheap consumer goods in order to help reduce the cost of living.

The cabinet has extended the period of help to victims of the Podul and Kajiki storms.  With a budget of Bt2.09 billion, the government will give Bt5,000 per household to people in 32 provinces until March 31, extending the period from November 25, deputy spokeswoman Ratchada Thanadirek said on Tuesday (December 3).

Seven provinces still face a critical situation as floods continue under the influence of tropical storms and the monsoon.

The Meteorological Department on Wednesday issued an urgent warning for residents of many provinces to brace themselves for heavy rains to be unleashed by the influence of category 2 tropical storm Kajiki.

The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department (DPMD) called on its provincial offices in 18 provinces on Tuesday to prepare manpower and equipment to tackle possible flash floods, forest runoffs and landslides due to heavy rainfall from the influence of tropical storm Kajiki, which was as of this morning centered in Hue, Vietnam, and moving slowly south-southwest.
